Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals Inc. is the brand name for the health care system in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The flagship hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, is located in Center City. The hospital is a teaching hospital for Thomas Jefferson University, and its staff of over 16,000 doctors and other healthcare professionals provide excellent care to patients from all over the world. There are five locations of Jefferson Health in Pennsylvania, including the new and renovated Mercy Medical Center, the most modern and advanced medical facility in the state.

As the largest private employer in the region, Jefferson Health provides world-class care for those with heart disease and diabetes. As a result, it has won numerous awards, including the National Quality Award for Cardiovascular Care. As the largest non-government provider in the region, Jefferson Health also is renowned for its gastrointestinal, neurologic, and urology services. The hospital has also won several national recognitions for its achievements in geriatrics, gastroenterology, GI surgery, cardiovascular disease, nephrology, and pulmonology.

The organization has announced a $3 million initiative aimed at improving the health of the most vulnerable residents of Philadelphia. The “Closing the Gap” program will address socioeconomic disparities that contribute to illness. It will provide education on how to avoid the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and provide more access to care. The program will work out of two sites – the Hansjorg Wyss Wellness Center in South Philadelphia and the Frazier Family Coalition for Stroke Education and Prevention in north Philadelphia.
