The Mar Monte Community Clinic is an independent children’s hospital providing specialized health care services to the children living in the surrounding communities. They treat mainly children from birth until the age of seven, but also cater to their needs from the time they were born till the moment of death. This means that all the children are covered with a very strong and experienced team of doctors, nurses, and medical specialists who will provide the necessary treatment irrespective of the stage of development they are at.
The centre was set up as a trust in 1993 by the Government of Mozambique. The aim of the centre was to serve the children in the surrounding communities and to help them lead an active life with no health problems. All the members of the community have their own dentist who comes to them and cleans their teeth after every visit. The services are not only free of cost but are also funded by the local health and dental funds. Every family gets the opportunity to choose their family doctor.
The other important service is the immunization clinics where all the children get their required vaccinations free of cost. They are even immunized against diseases like Hepatitis and HIV. These vaccinations are vital for the overall health of the children, because if they don’t get them early, it would mean a life-long disability. At the end of the day, the parents have their children immunized so that they can protect them and they could continue with their daily routine without any fear of getting sick or becoming unwell.
