UMMA Community Clinic is an innovative, community-based, nonprofit organization that provides a variety of quality health care services to uninsured and underinsured individuals in the greater Los Angeles area. Established in 1998, the organization is led by a pair of highly trained physicians who have served with the Department of Health and Human Services, specifically focusing on issues that affect the Latino community. The goal of UMMA is to serve its clients with a high standard of patient care and attentive, compassionate service. In doing so, they aim to improve the overall health of Latino individuals while concurrently building strong ties to their communities.
University Mosque Medical Association is the nation’s first Muslim American based medical association. Established in South Los Angeles, it features a clinically and socially aware staff serving an unequaled population, specifically an underrepresented group of Latino individuals. As part of their comprehensive outreach plan, the clinic offers a variety of services including annual general meeting, specialty clinics and community events, all of which are designed to further bridge the gap between those who suffer from chronic diseases, and those who are fortunate enough to be able to see and care for them. Their comprehensive services also include organ transplantation and stem cell transplants.
In terms of providing medical care, the UMMA clinic provides preventative screenings and gynecological services, as well as cardiology and dermatology services. They also offer a range of specialty services such as bariatric surgery, weight loss counseling and drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. The goal of these services is to improve the lives and the health of their clients, while making them self-sufficient and easing their economic situation. Through these services, they hope to improve the economic conditions of their communities, thereby ensuring their own well-being. With their highly trained and caring staff, the clinics are committed to providing the highest level of health care to all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.
