Westside Community Services (WCS) is a not-for-profit agency founded in 1969. It is a collaboration of many governmental, non-profit and private agencies in the County of San Francisco to serve the growing population of the Bay Area. The mission of WCS is “To serve individuals with a comprehensive approach to social service administration and programs, offering a variety of programs designed to eliminate disadvantageous living conditions and promote self-sufficiency.” It is one of the largest providers of long-term and short-term residential services in the San Francisco area. In its core areas, WCS provides long-term residential care, home maintenance, and supportive services for men, women, children and families.
Over fifty-five thousand people from a diverse population ages 35 and above receive assistance each year from Westside Community Services. They provide a variety of services such as case management, comprehensive substance abuse treatment programs, employment and training support, elder care, and case management for the developmentally disabled. Substance abuse is a growing concern in the County and the services provided by WCS help in the prevention and reduction of drug and alcohol abuse and its attendant social problems.
Case Management: The major services provided by WCS are case management and partner notification. Case management is an essential process of service delivery. It involves evaluating a client’s needs and then creating a case plan that details how W CSI will work with each client to create an individualized, personalized recovery plan based on the client’s unique circumstances. Partner notification also involves the provision of education, guidance and resources to families experiencing or at risk for substance abuse.
