Hey this is Diana and Janet with Two Moms Review where we review all things
about a clean home and happy kids and good sleep. Today we’re gonna show you
how to move a mattress. Song…In this video we want to show
you the way to wrap a mattress up, fold it properly, secure it, so that when it’s
time for the move your mattress looks like this [nicely packaged] not this [no cover in the back of a pickup truck]
like this. It’s nice and tight and secure it’s wrapped up nicely and neatly so
that dirt and water and other things can’t get on your nice clean mattress. If you’re

talk about why you might want to use this method…if you are moving anywhere
that you’re gonna have to have a mattress outside and it doesn’t matter
if you’re moving across the state or across the street as soon as that
mattress leaves your bedroom and goes outside whether it be to a moving truck
or your car or the car it doesn’t matter it’s gonna get dirty it’s gonna get
ruined so we have two methods to teach you. One of them is using a mattress bag
and if you don’t have a mattress bag we have another method I call the plastic
sheet method and it’s good for thicker mattresses that won’t fit in a standard
mattress bag. Okay so we’re gonna go over and demonstrate two views but watch
to the very end because if you don’t have painters plastic and you don’t have
a mattress cover we’re gonna tell you about one simple hack on how to move a
mattress when you’re in a pinch when you don’t have those supplies. Supplies needed: First a
mattress bag it’s 3.5 mil thickness so it’s a pretty durable strong
plastic. This is a little bit thicker than even came on the mattress itself
because I don’t want it to get damaged and I want to make sure that it’s thick
enough that it won’t tear easily I’ve…I can get two or three uses
out of one bag. Second this is a hybrid mattress that we’re sitting on it – it’s
an Mmore bed. Hybrid means it’s got springs and it’s got two memory foam in
it yep so for those they’re a little bit
harder they’re gonna want to spring open and stay flat so this one you’re gonna
I’m gonna use rope to help it stay secure because it’s a
full, we have 2 ropes pieces of rope so if you have a twin you
can get away with one rope if you have you have a full or queen or king you
definitely need at least two. Do you use three with a king? Yeah three with a king
okay, last of all you need tie-down straps so for again for a full or queen
you need two of these tie-down straps. You can get them at a hardware store
don’t use twine by the way I’ve tried to use it and it just breaks. Janet actually
moves mattresses in her business so she has done this many many many times. She knows
what she’s talking about here. For the mattress bag method you leave the
mattress flat I always like to put the mattress bag on first and then fold it.
Folding it just helps you keep it so you can fit it in the back of a car you can
put it in a van it just makes it easier to transport. Also when it comes to an all
foam mattress you can keep it folded for a lot for as long as you need to and
they’ll be just fine, but if it has springs in it it could damage the
springs so I would only leave it for a few weeks so once you get to the place
where you need to have it then let it back out and let it be flat. Okay, let’s
do this! I tested a lot of different mattress bags
this is my favorite mattress bag that comes on a roll so if you need a lot of
them you can give them down to about five dollars that for six dollars a
mattress bag if you want to move one or two then we’ll put a link to my favorite
mattress bag that comes singly, on Amazon. You can do this by yourself but it’s easier with two
people
Step 2 is to fold the mattress in half
Okay, now step 3, we’re going to tie this mattress shut need to take the rope
underneath the mattress
Ok, we’re gonna do a knot called the taut line hitch. So to tie this knot we
do a regular half hitch and then we want to loop it around one more time. All
right then we want to go around to the top of the knot and do one more half
hitch, ending like that. Then you want to dress the knot which
means bring it together and then with that you can tighten it or loosen it as
you need. All those Girl Scout knot lessons I actually need them as an
adult now. All right after you tie your two ends, you’re going to put the mattress on end. Make sure you tuck
Make your mattress, it’s fully secured you can tape the this end down, but we’re not going to today and
then you can use the rope to lift and carry it out and I’m not very strong but
I can lift this all by myself and you just want to make sure there’s not much
the more this splays apart and the more distance you have the harder it gets
unwieldy so you just want to make sure it’s tight if you if a rope is too hard
you can put the tie-down straps around and go underneath. So two options as far
as tying it down either using the tie downs or using the ropes you don’t have
to use both. Little baby for cuteness (kisses). All right now for method 2 using
painters plastic. This is in the painting aisle of a home-improvement store. Be
very careful that you get the thicker one, 3.5 mil. you don’t want to
go .7 mill or .5 mil or it’s just it won’t hold up. this is a 25 foot roll
this one was about $11. You also need a measuring tape, some scissors to
cut the plastic a tape gun with packing tape. Now don’t go cheap on the packing
tape. Don’t get it from the dollar store or somewhere cheap. We’ll put our
favorite brand in the video description. I recommend getting a good quality one. Last of all tie down
straps. Okay, let’s get started. Get out of your roll of painters plastic it comes
like this. Do not unfold it and you need 7 feet for twin or twin XL. You need
8 feet for a full or queen size mattress and you need 9 feet for a king so you
can get 2 Queens and a king of a 25 foot roll without any waste. All right so
let’s cut. We’re gonna do a queen size so we need 8 feet
I’m at the end of the my roll and it’s 8 feet so we don’t need to cut it. The next
step is to put the plastic at the foot of the mattress and undo half of it.
Fold the mattress in half. Then take our half the unfolded plastic and put it right under it.
We’re going to tie this with rope first to keep it so it stays folded.
Okay, so this is the same taut line hitch that we had tied earlier in this video
All right now we’re going to wrap it
make sure you have equal ends on both sides. And now here you also want to keep it tight as you can.
All right now we’re going to wrap the ends like a present. All right now that
we have this secured it’s like a package it’s not going anywhere we’re going to
use our tie-down straps. Now if you don’t have tie down straps would you recommend using the
ropes on the outside then? Yeah.
Now we have these lined up so if we go through a door you’d want to make sure
that these buckles don’t hit the door jam and do damage to your door or any furniture
and having them lined up at the top is the best way. We’re gonna, once again, have it like
this see how this is there’s not there’s not room in here it’s lined up at the
ends that makes it easiest to move. So now, if we want to move it just put our hands
underneath the tie down straps and… You know we moved we used 4 people to
move our mattress when we moved.
Some people put their mattress on top of their car
That’s really dangerous. Don’t do that yeah instead fold it and put it inside.
If by chance you do not have a mattress bag and you do not have painters
plastic, there’s a third option you can use that works pretty well and that’s a
tarp. You can use a tarp with the same method that we just taught you with the
plastic. It won’t tape as easily you might have to use duct tape or a heavier duty
tape but it’ll work in a pinch. Make sure to clean tarp though if it’s
dirty it’s gonna transfer that dirt right onto your mattress but like she said
I’ve even mopped tarps before. When you’re ready to unwrap this you just
have to cut wherever you have the tape and it just all comes apart really

I had a couple of minor flaws in my California King bag… I originally posted this review with two pictures of minor manufacturing flaws. I am very grateful and thankful for the bag, but even more grateful and thankful for both Amazon’s service and the manufacturer’s thank you. This is the bag to purchase… Thickness is fantastic… It serves as a mattress protector against bugs and insects. It has now been on my bed for a year with no problems. That is the caliber of this bag.
I purchased a queen size, and it easily accommodated a queen pillowtop mattress. (See images.) The bag is sealed at one end (similar to a pillowcase), and there is enough extra plastic at the open end to fold over and tape shut. The bag is made of heavy duty plastic and has been down a flight of stairs, loaded on and off a car roof rack several times, and then moved into a new house. There are no rips or tears.
I have a Purple mattress, which comes to you air compressed in the size of a large duffel bag. When that seal is broken, it’s a fantastic mattress, but it’s incredibly difficult to move. In any position other than the intended one, it is floppy, heavy, and awkward. My first move after receiving it was, to put it mildly, frustrating.
Second, I purchased this. It slid right over the mattress. We were able to use the handles as loops to tie the mattress into a roll, making it easier to transport. It was a stark contrast to the first move.
