Best Truck Bed Air Mattress

Our air mattress has arrived.
So this is it.
The Original AirBedz Truck Bed Mattress.
And, it has a section for the tailgate as well.
This contains the AirBedz
mattress the tailgate extension mattress, the carrying bag, a rechargeable
battery, patch and glue kit and AC charger. Product may vary slightly from
image. Hmmm.
There is the air pump.
The carrying case looks roomy.
This must be the rechargeable battery.

You’ve got a button here and another button here.
And I guess those will lock
this in place when it’s done.

I’m gonna try out using this hand pump that came with the air mattress.
I’ve decided to ditch this manual air pump.
It’s taking a minute, but it’s also making a very loud whistling screeching sound.
I don’t if you can hear this.
We recently purchased a $30 air mattress
that will go in the back seat of the cab of our truck. And, surprisingly that $30
air mattress actually came with an electric pump. So, I’m going to be using
this very fabulous electric pump that did not come with this expensive air bed
mattress for the bed of the truck so that this process goes more quickly and
more smoothly. But, I definitely want to note that this did not come in the AirBedz
mattress set. So, if you don’t have one of these electric pumps, you might
just be stuck using that manual pump for the tailgate extension.
Perfect fit.
The electric pump worked beautifully. The tailgate extension piece is now inflated.
And there you have it.
It’s actually not quite as wide as the truck. Hmmm
The bed of our truck is five feet wide by basically five and a half feet long.
With the tailgate down, it’s a little bit further than seven feet.
Before I can blow up the air mattress itself, I will need to charge this battery first.
After charging this battery for ten hours, we should be ready to blow up the mattress.
I guess we just…we should just turn the dial to inflate.
Is there a trick to this?
It’s not working. Arrow must point to off to secure air.
Okay, so I’m not sure if there’s a trick to this.
But, it’s definitely not working.
I’m not sure why this isn’t working, but it
is not working.
So, on my first attempt to blow up this air mattress, the battery
pack definitely is not working for me, and it seems like it’s a fairly simple design.
I’m not sure how to troubleshoot that. Fortunately, there is a space to
manually put air in, and that’s what we’re gonna go ahead and do now.
It only goes in the one way.
I kind of feel like we should just go ahead…wow!
Yeah. This definitely seems like a fairly severe design flaw. However,
I really wanted this heavy-duty truck bed mattress.
And this was the only
design that came with a tailgate extender. So, it looks like we’re gonna be
using the electric pump that we got with a different air mattress.
The double valve system should allow me to inflate this without the air coming right back out.
The seams look really good.
It’s not bad. It’s pretty firm. Yeah.
Gosh, I don’t know. I mean…
Yeah, it does feel firm. Okay.
Well, there you go. We’ll slide this puppy inside of our tent.
After the tent’s up. Yeah.
What, does the inflate work now?
No. Deflate works, but not inflate?
Oh, okay.
So you gotta watch out once you have inflated it using another method.
Yeah, keep that thing on the off. Because it immediately started deflating.
And I turned it to the inflate to see if it would pump it up a little bit more.
Not only does it not come on, it started deflating. Oh, wow.
So I was like, well, maybe they got it backwards. I went the other way. No, no…both ways deflate.
Oh my gosh.
We’re leaving that non-working battery pack dial to off so that it
doesn’t deflate our now inflated mattress.
Yup. Check it.
Ooh! Okay, so this is the air mattress inside of the truck,
inside of the bed tent. It looks good!
Now this is
stupid, and it doesn’t work, and you have to make sure you keep it to off because
if you put it to deflate, it’ll take all the air out.
But here’s the spot where we were able to manually inflate it. Awesome!
It doesn’t come all the way to the end.
Not only that, but look at this.
You could easily
get another foot on each side.
Or a foot total, between the two.
So, even though this measured to be the right one
for our truck bed, it still feels like it’s not…it’s not all the way there.
Oh, so basically you would have to put it here for it to go over the wheel well perfectly.
Here’s what that looks like with the extender attached.
It’s not a perfect fit, but I like it. I actually am really happy with this.
I can definitely see that this basically is designed to fit a number of different models.
Not exactly, but kind of sort of. There’s still a little bit of room at the end of
the tailgate for getting in and out.

Here’s the nighttime setup.
We’ve actually got a heater going. It’s so nice!
Because of the way that this is designed, the mattress itself actually like shifts
around inside the truck bed. So, this area that was supposed to be going over the
wheel well, it ended up kind of closer to the cab of the truck.
It should be easy
enough to roll this puppy up and put it back in the carrying case that it came with.
Kind of a bummer, to be honest with you. This was not a purchase that I would
recommend to others. This whole battery powered area is basically useless. Even
when you’re deflating it, it’s so much easier to just open up this cap over here.
So, wow. Just, such a fail for this mechanism.
Did you guys like sleeping on
the air mattress with mom and dad? Yeah. Yeah, it worked for you? I think it’s
because you guys have little bodies.
Oh, it’s very exciting.
But watch out for the mattress. Okay. Whew! Yaaay!

It’s a perfect stair-step. Yup.
We have used this mattress
before without locking the extender in place, and the extender moved around so
much that it was almost worthless. So, we definitely have to figure out how to get
this attached. Well, come here. Check this out. As one piece…

that something’s not…not right. Okay? Yeah. So, we have two locks, right? Yeah.
And it’s clear
as day what to do. Yes. Put it in the big hole. Yes. Lock it into the small hole. Right?
Yeah. Now, you would think that this would be a pretty simple case, right? Yeah.
Put it in, move it there, right? However, when they’re final…finally, like
locked in place, they should be exactly evened up for the small end, right? Yeah.
But look. I thought that! I honestly, when I was trying to put it in. Like, how do
you even do that? It’s not your fault. This is just horribly made. This is off. It’s off by an inch.
If we deflate the AirBedz? No, no. It’s off. It’ll still be off. Yeah, like this is just
horribly made. I mean, look at this.
One lines up perfectly, right? Yes. One’s not even in the same ballpark.
That means that this thing never, ever fit. That’s awful. Okay.
And I’ve tried it, flipping it the other way. But, I mean…it’s just a distance thing. Yeah. So…
I mean there’s nothing on the other side, right? No. There’s only one side that has
those pieces on it. Yep. Okay, so fail number two. These are major fails.
Oh, yeah. That’s, uh. That…I mean, this shows you. Like, this is just…
Something went horribly wrong at that, you know…whatever.
We’ve decided to go ahead
and put the extender piece at the front of the bed. That way we don’t have
separation here in the tailgate portion. So, this is basically what we’ve got now.
And. It’ll have to do. Yeah. It doesn’t line up on the side, but didn’t line up on the sides, anyway. So…
We put a king-sized fitted sheet over the mattresses to keep them together.
And, it actually worked really well last night. So, if you yourself have this set,
if you put a fitted sheet over the two pieces, I think it’ll work better for you, too.
If you do the same thing that we did, and you decide to buy it knowing that it
might not work a hundred percent, because you want that extender piece. You for
sure need to have your own air pump. Like, hands down. You have to have that.
So, that’s kind of where we landed with it. Now that we own it, we are going to be
using it. It definitely is going to be the air mattress that holds us up on our
camping trips for the summer. And, probably we will re-think this when we’re
in a place to invest in camping again!
