How to Take Your Newborn’s Temperature

Video

Transcript

taking care of a newborn baby is a total
learning experience and as you probably
know by now a ton of work being patient
and taking things one at a time can help
but it also helps to learn some of the
how to’s parents need to know that’s why
we made this video series to help with
at-home newborn care for example there
may come a time when you will need to
know if your baby has a fever and the
best way to find out is to measure the
temperature of your baby why would you
need to know well one reason might be
that your baby is not feeding as usual
or the baby may feel particularly warm
to the touch or maybe your baby is
crying non-stop and nothing you have
tried has worked to comfort your baby or
maybe the crying takes place in the
middle of the night and you will wake to
find your baby is both hot and sweaty
there are three standard ways to take a
person’s temperature oral in the mouth
rectal in the bottom and axillary under
the arm of these three ways only two are
recommended for an infant under the age
of three these are the axillary and the
rectal temperatures it’s not a bad idea
to know how to take your baby’s
temperature using these two ways but
keep in mind that while the axillary
temperature is good for a quick check if
you call into the doctor’s office your
pediatrician will definitely want to
know the rectal temperature because it
is the most accurate now you don’t have
to wait until your baby is crying from a
fever to take the temperature for the
first time there’s nothing wrong with
practicing how to just pick a convenient
time when your baby is calm and relaxed
use a digital thermometer most of the
digital ones are designed to be used for
all three standard ways but make sure
the package indicates that it can be
used for the way you want actually for
children under three years it is a good
idea to have two thermometers one for
axillary
and one for rectal temperature taking
carefully read the instructions that
come with a thermometer so you’ll know
how it works you’ve probably heard of
the in the ear electronic thermometers
but here’s the scoop on these devices
although they are quick and easy for
older infants and young children for
newborns they are an is accurate as the
rectal temperature taken with a digital
thermometer when you call the doctor’s
office you’ll want to give them the most
accurate information about your baby to
start place your baby down face up on a
firm surface a table or changing table
is fine
loosen the diaper clean the end of the
digital thermometer using a tissue with
rubbing alcohol or soap and cool water
do not wash or rinse it with hot water
then place a small amount of lubricant
on the end such as petroleum jelly then
turn the thermometer on making sure it’s
powered up next bend the baby’s legs
toward the chest and insert the end 1/2
inch to one inch into the baby’s anal
opening do not insert it more than one
inch hold the thermometer in place
loosely holding the baby’s legs keep it
there until you hear the beep about a
minute then remove it and check the
digital reading on the display clean the
thermometer after each use wipe it with
tissue and then with rubbing alcohol or
soap and water dry the thermometer
before putting it away it is a good idea
to mark this thermometer for rectal use
so you don’t use it anywhere else to
take your baby’s temperature under the
arm the axillary temperature lay the
baby down on a firm surface a table a
changing table or a crib is fine
lift one arm up and place the
thermometer under the arm with the tip
pressing in the center of the armpit now
bring the arm down making sure it is in
line with a thermometer gently hold the
arm down until the thermometer beeps
after it beeps take it out and read the
temperature making note of the reading
if the under the arm temperature is over
99 degrees you’ll want to verify this
taking your baby’s rectal temperature if
the rectal temperature is 1
point four degrees or higher call the
doctor’s office and remember to tell
them which way it was taken they’ll want
to know that if you are concerned it is
always best to call your doctor rather
than worry having a digital thermometer
in your home and knowing how to use it
are important steps to take
you’ll feel better knowing you can take
your baby’s temperature if you need to

Baby Thermometer Review

Baby thermometers are very useful devices for baby monitoring. They are used to determine the temperature of the baby’s skin, to check whether he or she is hungry or tired, and to detect fever and any sign of infection. The best way to use this device is to keep it with you as you go about your day to day activities, as you will need to know if the temperature of your baby’s skin has suddenly dropped when you did not expect so.

Baby thermometers come in various shapes and sizes. You can easily find one that will fit your pocket and is easy to carry around. There are also different types of thermometers for babies and the temperature they are trying to maintain can be determined easily.

You can find thermometers that are designed to determine the temperature of your baby’s skin by placing a probe in the base of the infant’s foot and then measuring the temperature by taking the reading at the end of the day. You can also find thermometers that can be placed over the nose to determine the temperature of the air around your baby. These thermometers can be used to determine the temperature of the atmosphere around the baby.

Another type of baby thermometer is the one that you can keep in the crib and which can measure the temperature of the air inside the baby’s crib. These are very useful if you want to keep track of your baby’s temperature during the night or when the temperature of the air inside the baby’s crib is low. You can use these thermometers to check whether your baby is hungry. Usually, baby thermometers will have labels to indicate the temperature of the air surrounding the baby.

You can also find a thermometer that will help you to know the temperature of the environment around the baby and the temperature of the air in the room. These thermometers are often placed in the baby’s room to determine the temperature of the air inside the room. These devices are designed to determine the temperature of the air. It is necessary to note that some thermometers do not provide the reading in Fahrenheit. You can find thermometers that will give the reading in Celsius and Fahrenheit if you are looking for accurate information.

A baby thermometer is a useful device for your baby’s health and safety. They help you to monitor your baby’s health and to determine the temperature of the air around the baby. You can use the temperature of the air to know whether your baby is hungry and to help you monitor your baby’s temperature.

Baby Thermometer Guide

Baby rectal thermometer

Baby rectal thermometers have been around for a while but they have only gained in popularity recently. With increasing awareness of child health and safety, parents no longer feel compelled to rely on guesswork when it comes to their baby’s temperature. Using baby thermometers to chart baby’s temperature has turned into a common practice, particularly during the spring and summer months. But these thermometers aren’t just for babies. Parents of older children, as well as adults, can take advantage of a baby rectal thermometer as well.

When you click on the picture of the baby thermometer on the product page, you will find detailed information about the product, its uses and benefits, plus the various models. On the product page there are a product description, a side by side comparison with other brands and a list of features. There is also a product FAQ page where you can find information on what this particular product can do, as well as an explanation of the different features. Many thermometers today come with built-in digital display technology allowing you to read the temperature directly from the thermometer display.

Baby ear thermometer

The best baby ear thermometer to expand rapidly during the forecast period is considered as a perfect product to accurately measure the baby’s temperature during the day time. The best baby ear thermometer helps in tracking the baby’s health history and provides real-time guidance when needed. It helps in measuring the temperature of the entire body including the scalp, armpits, underarms, palms, etc. It is perfectly compatible with all the major and leading mobile phones and handheld devices like the iPod, iPhones, iPad, etc.

The baby ear thermometer also helps to ensure the correct placement of the baby monitor in order to get accurate readings. It records the temperature readings of the inside of the ear canal, which may vary from normal body temperature ranges. Hence, the readings recorded by the thermometers do not correlate with the actual body temperatures. They provide desired guidance on the therapy and help in avoiding the risks associated with under or over heating. The temperature measurements help in deciding the baby’s ideal temperature for the day and guide the parents to set the appropriate blankets, clothes, feeding etc.

The baby ear thermometer can be used to record and chart the daily temperature readings, which helps in understanding the growth patterns of the children and also in monitoring their temperature levels. With the help of digital thermometers, one can easily track the temperature of their children and chart their growth. The data collected through the digital thermometers helps in knowing the average temperature of the children. This helps in avoiding the danger of overheating or under heating, which can result in the sudden onset of fever and other fever like symptoms in young children. If the temperature levels are known at the beginning of the session, one can prevent the occurrence of such emergencies that can lead to the death of a child.

Baby forehead thermometer

The baby forehead thermometer is one of the most useful thermometers that you will come across when shopping for baby care items. They are quite accurate, as they measure the temperature of your baby’s forehead in just a few seconds. But then again, they come with a number of disadvantages that need to be weighed carefully so that you can choose the one that is perfect for you. Also, you need to consider the cost and the brand and quality before buying it.

In general, the baby forehead thermometer digital ear comes in a number of different types but the digital ear canal thermometers are easy to operate and most parents prefer this over all. Also, make a list of all the features you want your baby thermometers to have so that you can easily choose the perfect one based on your requirement. Some thermometers come with an automatic shut off feature so that you don’t have to manually switch it off after using it. Others have a display screen that clearly shows the temperature level. Digital thermometers are also more accurate than the analog ones in terms of measuring the temperature.

However, when it comes to measuring the baby’s body temperature, it is advisable to stick to a thermometer that comes with an external probe. This is because using one that has an internal probe is not advisable as it can provide inaccurate readings and may not accurately measure the baby’s body temperature. Finally, always buy a baby forehead thermometer from a reputable company because there are many brands available in the market. Check out the product reviews and customer feedback before buying so that you get the best product that suits your needs.

Baby underarm thermometer

For infants and toddlers up to six weeks of age, digital baby underarm thermometers with a probe that fits easily under the armpit are the ideal options. They give off an accurate reading when used correctly. When measuring the temperature in the baby’s underarms, the probe should be inserted just under their arms so the skin is not affected. The thermometer needs to be placed directly over the belly button area so it will not get blocked by clothing.

A baby underarm thermometer is useful in two ways – to chart the baby’s temperature over time and to monitor the overall temperature. Charting the baby’s temperature can be done using the probe of the thermometer facing upward. When the baby moves, the probe should move downward towards the stomach so the temperature reading is recorded. The temperature of the baby should always be higher than the temperature of his/her mother since the mother’s body has most of its essential fluids in the digestive tract where the baby would receive adequate nutrition.

Another practical use for a baby underarm thermometer is in monitoring the overall fever. Most thermometers today come with a probe tip that can also measure the general body temperature so parents do not need to buy a separate thermometer for this purpose. Some thermometers come with hoods or cups that can be used to keep the upper portion of the thermometer out of the baby’s eyes to prevent excessive loss of heat. Baby thermometers can prevent dehydration by alerting parents to the onset of a low body temperature.

Baby room thermometer

A baby room thermometer provides parents with a fast visual indication on whether the baby room is either too hot or too cool, enabling them to make quick adjustments as necessary. Some use color-coding for heat levels, while others use alarms and beeping sounds. Some baby room thermometers are multifunctional and can even monitor the baby’s heart rate as well.

In order to use a baby room thermometer, you must place it securely above or behind the infant’s crib or cradle. It must also be placed within easy reach, so that the baby can easily pick up and manipulate it. Some models have a digital display that shows the baby’s temperature level in color-coded circles, with increasing colors indicating a higher temperature. Others have a digital display that displays only the temperature level. The thermometers usually come with a transparent protective shield, which should be removed for cleaning or other reasons. The digital display is usually small and barely visible, so it is important that the temperature display is clear and large enough to be read easily from a distance.

A baby room thermometer is an excellent tool to have in your nursery, as it allows you to regularly monitor your baby’s temperature, which helps you pinpoint when it’s time to add more baby bedding to prevent overheating. Being able to properly monitor the temperature in the baby’s room helps you avoid using heating pads or blankets to prevent baby sleep disorders. Most importantly, it allows you to get a better night’s sleep, even if your little one does have a sleeping disorder.

This termometer is fantastic. My 9-month-old son has just had his first fever. I’d used it a few times before, but this was the first sickness, and it was so simple that he doesn’t mind having his temperature taken. There’s no need to worry about whether it’s in far enough or far enough, and it slides in very easily. It also beeps when it’s finished. I just wish you could make the backlight stay on all the time, or that it would turn on automatically when the reading was finished.

  2. Kate

I have to take my baby’s temperature frequently, so I started with the safety first and Vicks thermometers. This one is far superior. I like having others double-check, but this one has a large screen that lights up, making it easy to read even in the middle of the night without glasses. There is also a memory feature, which is great for forgetful/tired parents. The flexible tip then makes inserting easier and more comfortable. I had no idea I could be so in love with a thermometer.

  3. Jas Yal

We bought this thermometer for our baby and wanted to measure in Fahrenheit because that is the standard temperature in this country. Despite what the documentation says, this thermometer only reads in Celsius and does not change the reading type. I tried for a long time to hold the button down for 8 seconds after turning on to change the reading units, but the meter only begins reading again once the button is pressed.
